Buena Vista University brings an exceptional variety of speakers and cultural
events to the area. In 2003, the National Theatre for the Deaf entertained
the audience at BVU, and various musical ensembles from around the world
have performed on the BVU stage. Past speakers include Margaret Thatcher
and George Bush.
The annual Independence Day celebration in Storm Lake,
the Star Spangled Spectacular, brings to town a number of performers
from around the nation,
and also many local groups. Area schools provide concerts and theatre,
and the Buena Vista Community Theatre performs each year at the Roxy in
Alta, a refurbished theatre in the heart of the community. And, of course,
dinner is available at the area’s many fine restaurants, featuring
everything from home-style cooking to ethnic cuisine.
